Thanks to All for a Successful 2007 Turkey Day Chili Bowl Cook-Off
On behalf of the students and staff, the Kirkwood School District extends thanks and appreciation to the Kirkwood School District Foundation (KSDF) for hosting the successful 2007 Turkey Day Chili Bowl. A special thank you to the many community members who turned out to support this event and sample chili from area restaurants. The community chose Mike Duffy’s Pub and Grill as the winner for “Best Chili in Town” and “Most Traditional.” Although Duffy’s chili remains #1 in the hearts and tummies of Kirkwood fans, Llywelyn’s Pub of Webster Groves was awarded the Frisco Bowl as winner of the official taste off between the KSDF Chili Bowl winner and the Webster Chili Fest winner during halftime at the Turkey Day game.
The school district considers all the local restaurants that participated in this annual event to be winners. Without their support and commitment, a very necessary ingredient would be missing from the Chili Bowl!
Thank you to all the 2007 restaurant participants including Alandale Brewing Co.; Cafe Provencal, voted “Hottest Chili”; Down Under Restaurant, fourth place for “Best Chili”; Hanlen’s Fine Meats & Catering Service, Inc., third place for “Best Chili”; Mike Duffy’s Pub & Grill, “Best Chili in Town” and “Most Traditional”; O'Charley’s; PJ’s Tavern, second place for “Best Chili”; Sunset 44 Bistro and Banquet Center; Texas Roadhouse; and Two Nice Guys Restaurant.
Sponsors for the 2007 Chili Bowl included Byerly RV, the Korte Law Firm, Riggs Construction and Design and Frontenac Bank. Because of the generosity of these area businesses, even more of the funds raised will directly benefit students and staff.
The 2007 Chili Bowl Committee deserves a very special thank you for their efforts. Lynn Jacobs and Robin Roth, Chili Bowl committee co-chairs, did an outstanding job of leading a hard working and committed crew of volunteers. Jacobs credits the entire committee for their professionalism and hard work. “I was fortunate to lead a fantastic team of volunteers,” says Jacobs. The committee members included Melissa Dillon, Pat McCarthy, Joanne Cejka, Mary Kanzler, Betsy Humphreys, Peggy Scott, Jeanie Murphy, Kathy Pope, Suzy Ward, Karen McNamee, Chris Fox, Sue Roth and Julie Grossman.
Proceeds from 2007 KSDF Chili Bowl Cook-Off support the Kirkwood School District Foundation's mission to provide funding for educational programs and major projects that extend beyond the reach of the Kirkwood School District's regular budget. The Chili Bowl is one of several fund-raising efforts sponsored by KSD Foundation, a private, not-for-profit organization established in 1989 for the purpose of encouraging and financially supporting the best educational opportunities for all students and staff in the Kirkwood School District.
