Class Letter
July 14, 2011
Dear Kirkwood High School Freshman and Parent(s),
Welcome to Kirkwood High School!! This is the beginning of some of the most memorable years of your life, and I am very excited to have the opportunity to be a part of it. I will be your grade level principal, and Ms. Julie Schmidt will be your secretary all four years that you are here. We look forward to knowing you better and working with you as you reach your ultimate destination: graduation. We want to ensure that your memories are filled with an abundance of learning, life-long friendships, and personal growth. As you begin your first year in high school, please remember that you have a support system of teachers, counselors, staff, and administrators to help you make good decisions, find success in the most difficult tasks, and enjoy this wonderful experience.
As you will quickly discover, I am very passionate about the students at KHS. I have been at Kirkwood High School for 20 years, both as a teacher and an administrator, but this is my first year as a grade level principal. As someone new to this role, I share your excitement and anxiety about this upcoming school year. A favorite quote of mine is, “Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude.” I see the great potential that exists in this class, and I believe the Class of 2015 will possess that attitude! We will work together to ensure the next four years bring you much success and the fulfillment of your goals and dreams.
As you transition from middle school to high school, you will find that there are a multitude of opportunities for you. KHS offers a wide variety of courses, clubs, activities, and athletic teams. I encourage you to participate in as many of these activities as you possibly can. The more you become involved with your school, the greater your feeling for the school community will be. As an introduction to these activities, we will hold an Activities Fair/Community Pep Rally on Thursday, August 18th from 5:30-7:45pm. Please make plans to attend and get involved.
I am very excited about being a part of the Class of 2015. I look forward to seeing you at Freshman Orientation on Tuesday, August 16th from 7:50am-12:30pm. This will be a day just for us, so bring that Attitude of Excellence! Let the journey begin!
Sincerely,
Romona Miller Assistant Principal, Class of 2015
