CORRELATION/CONNECTION TO KIRKWOOD STRATEGIC PLAN

STRATEGIC PLAN OBJECTIVES: (from the district CSIP)
Each student:
• Each student will demonstrate a wide range of interests.
• Will master the EOC exams at the advanced level.
• Who takes the ACT will score above the national average.

STRATEGIC PLAN STRATEGIES: (from the district CSIP)
• We will continuously collect and analyze student data to maximize instruction that meets the unique needs of each student.
• Our educators will have the skills to effectively use innovative instructional strategies, instructional design, and resources that enable students to achieve academic excellence.
• Each child will develop a wide range of interests through the provision of multiple opportunities.



TARGET: Students will be proficient in Communication Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.


GOAL 1: All students will graduate.
Planned Strategies:
• Review effectiveness of alternative programs like Atlas, Collaborative School, Project Achieve, etc. and make recommendations for future utilization.
• Research and identify interventions and support systems to keep students on track to graduate.
• Utilize 4-year plan to help students find career path, develop academic goals, and identify needs.
• Monitor student failures and identify strategies and interventions to increase success.

GOAL 2: All students taking the ACT test will score above the national average.
Planned Strategies:
• Provide staff development and implement strategies in the classroom that are shown to improve student success on the ACT.
• Develop curriculum and assessments for a new ACT prep course.

GOAL 3: The student pass rate on Advance Placement (AP) exams will increase by 10%.

Planned Strategies:
• Research and identify strategies that are shown to improve student success on the AP.
• Provide staff time to share best practices that enhance student learning in AP classes.

GOAL 4: The number of students taking AP tests or receiving College Credit (CC) will increase by 10% annually.

Planned Strategies:
• Utilize classroom assessment information to provide feedback on readiness and encourage students in AP to take exams.
• Utilize classroom assessment information to provide feedback on readiness and encourage students to earn college credit.
• Provide staff development and implement strategies in the classroom that are shown to increase student success in CC courses.

GOAL 5: The number of minority students taking AP or Honors courses will increase by 10% annually.
Planned Strategies:
• Use test scores, grades, and classroom data to identify minority students for AP and Honors courses.
• Utilize achievement data to develop and implement strategies to increase achievement of minority students.

GOAL 6: Eighty percent of students who take the End of Course (EOC) exams will score advanced or proficient.

Planned Strategies:
• Research, identify, and implement best practices that lead to student proficiency in Communication Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
• Evaluate grading and reporting practices, including evaluation and feedback, to determine effectiveness in student learning.
• Review and align curriculum and assessments to the Course Level Expectations (CLEs) and EOC exams.
• Write common formative and summative assessments for continuous review of student data.

GOAL 7: Eighty percent of students in the class of 2011 and 2012 will sign and complete the A+ agreement.
Planned Strategies:
• Establish strategies for communicating requirements and benefits of the A+ program to students and parents.
• Establish a system to monitor students’ GPA, attendance, and citizenship.
• Establish a system to track student mastery of objectives in courses for the A+ program.

GOAL 8: The number of students, teachers, and parents participating in activities will increase by 25%.
Planned Strategies:
• Utilize data from athletics and activities to develop and implement strategies to increase student participation.
• Establish a system to track and monitor the number of staff and parents participating in activities.
• Develop and administer surveys to assess rates of change in perceived levels of involvement.
