Principal's Message

Where am I?

June 2010

Hello Parents,

Thanks to all of you for contributing to the fabulous 2010 school year. The past year was one of tremendous accomplishments by our students. We had another strong academic year at KHS as our teachers worked hard to help every child reach his/her potential. Our top scholars for the class of 2010 were co-valedictorians: Sara Kern, Katie Strickland and Angela Johnson and our salutatorian, Maggie Pautler. Our performing arts reached heights never before achieved at KHS. Our band performed at the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference in January. In March, many of us travelled to Carnegie Hall with our orchestra to witness and celebrate their excellence. The coup de grace for our performing arts came in May when “Downbeat” Magazine selected Kaleidoscope, our vocal jazz ensemble, as the number one vocal jazz group in the United States. Once again our journalism program garnered national recognition. In athletics, Rachel Stuhlmann (tennis) and Ronald Dumas (400 meters) won state championships and were the stand-outs in another banner year for KHS athletics.

The class of 2010 was the first to graduate in the comfortable setting of Chaifetz Arena at St. Louis University. The 424 graduates made us all smile with their grand finale: a flash mob dance to the Black Eyed Peas song "I Gotta Feeling." Graduation night ended with another safe, fun-filled after-graduation party at the Lodge at Des Peres in the early hours of the morning.

Thanks again to all students, teachers, and parents who contributed to the great success of the 2010 school year. To all of our graduates: We are proud of you. Go out into the world and be great Kirkwood Pioneers.

Dave Holley
