Principal's Message
Where am I?
July 28, 2011
Dear KHS Student: Welcome to Kirkwood High School. Whether you are a new or returning student, the beginning of each school year is an opportunity to reflect upon personal goals and actions. Take this time to assess your academic progress and your involvement in extra-curricular activities. Success results from intention, purposeful direction, and wise decision-making. Our seniors will provide positive leadership as we have another great year at Kirkwood High School.
We have an outstanding staff at KHS that will continue to guide our students through their academic journey and support you as you work towards your goals. Each one of you has the potential to be an excellent student and a person of good character. It is our hope that you follow your passion and take advantage of our diverse learning and extra-curricular offerings.
This year, orientation day for freshmen and students who are new to KHS will be held on August 16th, from 7:50 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. We will begin promptly at 7:50 a.m. in the Keating Theater with an assembly presented by the administrative staff. At the conclusion of this assembly, freshmen students will attend activities hosted by the KHS Link Crew. The orientation day will also consist of a tour of the campus, introductions of the students’ teachers, and lunch provided by the school. The KHS National Honor Society will provide new students a tour of the school.
The first day of school for all students will be on August 17, 2011. We begin at 7:50 a.m. and students will attend all seven periods. We encourage all students to arrive on time and ready to learn. Remember that KHS band practices begin on August 1st and fall sports begin on August 8th. We look forward to seeing you in August. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mike Havener, Principal
