Where am I?

General Information

This page and the links to the left will help you understand the service-learning process.

What is service-learning?

Service-learning involves students in community activities that complement their classroom studies.  Every service-learning program is unique, but all aim to help students increase their academic skills through understanding how what they learn in school can be applied to the real world.  Service-learning programs help students become interested in their communities and learn how they can affect the quality of life in them.

Reminders:

Service should validate and be respectful of the community culture.

Service is not imposed on people; they are the determiners of their own needs.

Service is about partnerships and collaborations among schools, colleges and universities, and community organizations.

Students have a new role as resources and contributors.
