President's Volunteer Service Award

Kirkwood School District Students earn 2010 President’s Volunteer Service Award 

Maria Stobbe, seventh grade teacher at North Kirkwood Middle School (NKMS) and the district’s service learning coordinator, introduced 10 students who earned the 2010 President’s Volunteer Service Award to the Kirkwood Board of Education in May. They include, from left, NKMS students Efrain Batista, 8th grade, Silver Level for 88 hours of service; Luke Barber 8th grade, Silver Level for 75 hours; Ganesh Gangasingh, 7th grade, Bronze Level for 50.5 hours; Brennan Lord-Howe, 6th grade, Bronze Level for 51 hours of service; Nipher students Mary Beth Black, 8th grade, Gold Level for 136.5 hours; Emily Stobbe, 8th grade, Silver Level for 86 hours; and Kirkwood High School students Courtney Haring, 11th grade, Bronze Level for 102 hours; Sabrina Cox, 11th grade, Bronze Level for 147.5 hours; Kathryn Schuchardt, 11th grade, Bronze Level for 105 hours. KHS student Sarah Schewegel, 11th grade, was unable to attend, but was recognized for receiving the Bronze Level for her 139 hours of service. 

The President’s Volunteer Service Award is given to individuals, families, and groups that have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service and civic participation over the course of a 12-month period.  The award is issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation on behalf of the President of the United States.
