Westchester PTO 101

Westchester PTO 101

Welcome to Westchester PTO! Since your child attends Westchester, you are automatically a member of PTO. Westchester PTO provides support for the teachers and staff of our school, but also works to develop a sense of community among our students and families. We sponsor events throughout the year in the form of fundraising and fun times in order to accomplish these goals. Here is an explanation of the activities we sponsor:

Greentree Parade Westchester Float: Every September the Kirkwood community celebrates Greentree Festival. Westchester provides a float for the parade through which the students and their families can march in the parade and show their school pride! Save the date of September 16th, 2011.

Fall Book Fair/Ice Cream Social and Spring Book Fair: PTO organizes and supports 2 book fairs, one in the spring and one in the fall.  PTO provides a free Ice Cream social in conjunction with fhe Fall Fook fair.  Come shop for books, and then decorate a scoop of ice cream with your favorite toppings. Proceeds from the fall and spring book fairs benefit the Westchester library. Fall Book Fair-Save the date of October 11th, 2011 /Spring Book Fair April 24th, 2012.

Family Fun Night: Come get rid of the mid-winter doldrums! Every January, PTO sponsors a family-style carnival on a Friday evening at school. Play carnival games, listen to good music, socialize with friends, and eat a great dinner. Wristbands are sold ahead of time and at the door. Separate tickets for games are also available. A silent auction of classroom keepsakes, various basket items, and teacher sponsored activities also takes place.  Save the date of January 20th. 2012.

Westchester Trivia Night: An adults only event that usually takes place in February or March at the Kirkwood Community Center. Reserve a table of 8 people, bring a few appetizers and drinks, bid on silent auction items throughout the night, and test your knowledge.  Save the date of February 25th, 2012.

School Picnic: Celebrate another successful school year by joining your friends in Kirkwood Park for family fun! Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy entertainment provided by PTO. Save the date of May 18th 2012.

In addition to these events, PTO produces and distributes the school buzz book and a memory book. This year, each family receives one free buzz book, and each child receives a free memory book.

PTO is able to fund these events, as well as teacher grants and purchases for the school, through fundraising. Our four core fundraisers are Easy Street, Innisbrook wrapping paper sales, Family Fun Night, and Trivia Night. All PTO sponsored events rely heavily on parental involvement and support. We hope that you will come out and volunteer! Participating in PTO is a great way to meet other Westchester families and support your child’s school.

If you have any questions or want to volunteer, please call Julie Cross at 909-0199 or Rebecca Schene at 965-0778.

***Reminder: PTO Meetings are the second Tuesday of every month in the Westchester Library at 7 PM (9/14, 10/12, 11/9, no December meeting, 1/11, 2/8, 3/8, 4/12, 5/9—Salad Supper in cafeteria).
