Reach Teachers Head to Florida for NAGC

Reach teachers from Westchester and Tillman joined me to attend four days of the National Gifted Conference in Tampa, Florida.  Together we attended over thirty sessions led by experts in the field of gifted education, including Dr. Carol Ann Tomlinson, Dr. Joseph Renzulli and Sally Reis, among others. 

Many topics crucial to gifted education were covered; differentiation techniques, collaborative coaching, underachieving high achievers as well as fostering creative thinking and supporting visual and spatial learners.
We look forward to further strengthening the Kirkwood gifted program as we bring this learning into the curriculum and classroom.

Fifth Graders Search for Primary Sources

The fifth grade Reach class traveled to downtown Kirkwood along with Tillman fifth graders in search of primary sources. The "Greater Than Google" mystery trip took fifth graders to a variety of locations in Kirkwood where representatives from each location took time to share primary sources and thier significance.

Sorry for the lack of details on specific locations, but we would not want to give away the mystery for future classes!

First Grade Screening Process Set to Begin

All Keysor first graders are considered to be in the pool of students to be screened for the gifted program at Keysor. Over the next four weeks teachers will be working together to identify students who demonstrate possible gifted abilities and characteristics. Those students will continue through the screening process into the formal assessment phase.

Welcome Back Reach Families

It is so exciting to see and hear from all the learners who can't wait to get started this year! The Reach schedule is now set and classes will begin on Monday, August 25th.

Second Grade Reach: 8:50-11:20 each Wednesday morning.
Third Grade Reach: 12:00-1:00 and 1:45-3:15 each Monday afternoon.
Fourth Grade Reach: 12:45-3:15 each Tuesday (Lauberth and Renkins).
12:45-3:15 each Thursday (Smart and Krena).
Fifth Grade Reach: 9:00-11:30 each Tuesday.
