Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) — Spring 2011

The Kirkwood School District is pleased to report that the 2011 MAP index scores for Kirkwood students rank in the top five for St. Louis County in every grade level and content area. MAP scores show an increase in Kirkwood students scoring in the proficient and advanced categories. Students in Grades 3 through 8 were tested in communications arts and mathematics. Students in Grades 5 and 8 were also tested in science. High School students took the EOC exams in English, algebra and biology.

In addition to an increase in MAP scores, the district saw significant student gains in meeting adequate yearly progress (AYP). AYP reports are part of the Federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, which was signed into law in 2002. The goal of NCLB is for all children to be proficient in reading and math by 2014. Each district and each individual school is assessed to determine if it has achieved adequate yearly progress toward that goal on an annual basis.

End of Course Exams (EOC)

On the End of Course (EOC) exams taken at the high school level, Kirkwood High School students ranked fourth in algebra, second in biology and fifth in English II. This is the third year high school students have taken the EOC exams, which replaced MAP tests previously given to students in 10th grade (math) and 11th grade (communications arts). Students take the EOC exams over specific content at the end of the course.
