Nineteen KHS Seniors Recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corp.
Nineteen Kirkwood High School seniors achieved recognition in programs sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corp. (NMSC). More than 1.5 million high school juniors nationwide participated in the 2009 NMSC programs by completing the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
KHS seniors Nicholas Coyle, Bailey Firszt, Monica Fleisher, Robert Healey, Molly Johnson, William Paulsen, Marion Sudvarg, James Tucker and Patrick Vatterott were named National Merit Semifinalists in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship program. They are among the approximately 16,000 semifinalists announced in the country. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, which represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. These students are eligible to advance to finalist standing, a prerequisite to consideration for a Merit Scholarship Award. National Merit Finalists will be announced in the spring.
KHS seniors Jacob Balbes, Susan Bay, Anna Bohn, Dillon Corr, Christopher Kelly, Sarah Klevorn, Daniel Levine, John Lodato, Robert Lothman and Douglas Melville are among the 34,000 students nationwide who were announced as National Merit Commended Students in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program. Although they do not continue in the 2009 competition for Merit Scholarship Awards, commended students placed among the top five percent of the more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2009 competition.
