Kirkwood School District Dedicates Kirkwood High School Pioneer Circle on Sept. 2
August 31, 2010
The Kirkwood School District and Board of Education will host a dedication ceremony for the Kirkwood High School Pioneer Circle on Thursday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m. The Pioneer Circle is located in front of the KHS Varsity Gym on the high school campus, 801 W. Essex Ave. The community is welcome to attend.
The Pioneer Circle will serve as a focal point for the high school and a gathering place for students and visitors to the campus. A key element of the Pioneer Circle is the large sculpture created by Brother Mel Meyer, S.M., whose colorful works can be seen throughout the St. Louis area. Engraved pavers listing the names of district friends and KHS alumni classes that contributed to the construction of the Pioneer Circle surround the sculpture, which features large, red letters stacked whimsically on top of each other to denote “KHS.”
